To make repetitive loader tasks easier and more accurate, John Deere now offers return-to- position (RTP) option which automatically returns the front loader to a preset position. The RTP is part of the ESL packages: the ESL standard package includes the non self-leveling (NSL) boom with RTP, whereas the ESL premium Package provides the mechanical self-leveling (MSL) boom equipped with RTP.
 
ESL keeps the loader leveled electronically.
 
With RTP, the driver can save up to four implement positions: four implement heights and four implement angles. Due to the RTP, productivity can be significantly increased and provides an easy environment for the operator. This function removes the need to keep full concentration on the attachment position; the tractor can manage the loader thanks to a few clicks by the driver. For example, the driver can save four positions in a loading process. The operator loads manure: he takes up the manure (1), transports it to the trailer (2), lifts it above the trailer (3), dumps it into the trailer (4). He can return to all these positions by clicking the joystick in the appropriate direction. Due to the saved positions the risk of damages are minimized.
 
With the RTP option, there is no need to check the loader height and the implement angle when handling pallets, silage bales, wood, and gravel — the tractor takes the control. This means a complete loading cycle can be performed in 8 movements of the joystick. The electronic joystick and the intuitive CommandCenter™ controls further increases ease of usability.
 
The ESL packages are available for 6R Tractors which are equipped with an electronic joystick and CommandCenter.

With the RTP option, the front loader is managed by the tractor controller. An ESL feature is in base of the RTP function. The ESL feature can be deactivated via the CommandCenter to support a specific handling task such as loading grain if the operator prefers to work without leveling system (1).
 
The RTP can be activated via the touch screen of the CommandCenter (ON/OFF) and can be modified individually for different implements. The operator can recall the memorized implements and can be reused without additional adjustments (2). The display can illustrate two boom/implement heights (right side) and two implement angles (left side). To show the two additional heights and angles, the operator can switch via the buttons A/B (3).

For perfectly adjusted loader handling behavior, more settings are available on the tractor hydraulic section for 6R.
 
Flow characteristic setup
 
Joystick behavior can be set between linear (red), progressive (green), or as a combination (yellow) for exact flow modulation and precise valve management.
  • Linear means constant speed during the whole movement
  • Progressive means the motion slows down just before the end position, but guarantees sensitive start of the movement
  • Combination is an intermediate stage between the two settings listed above

A rotary sensor (1) is located on the mast and measures the boom height. The second rotary sensor (2) is integrated on the inside of the boom and linked to the drive linkage that checks the attachment angle.
 
The sensor information communicates via a wiring harness to the tractor controller. A specific program manages the communication between the joystick information, the electronic valve, and the loader position.
