Field Analyzer
The John Deere Operations Center provides users an approach to accessing accurate agronomic information to drive better business decisions; the tool at the center of it all is the Field Analyzer. Making decisions based on agronomic information requires accuracy, and the Field Analyzer provides tools, both automated and manual, to take that critical first step in evaluating it. Once information is accurate, the Field Analyzer will help lead to a better understanding of which factors are influencing yield.
Value in brief:
  • Evaluate what decisions are and are not working well
  • Correct documentation errors made in the cab
  • Create operation specific reports to review field performance job execution
Functionality:
Growers need to evaluate agronomic data easily and with a few button clicks. In the Operations Center, there is an approach to organizing agronomic data so that users can access the right information quickly in the Field Analyzer. By clicking on any field in the map or the Fields Panel, users will see a field icon which launches the Field Analyzer. In the Field Analyzer, users can determine which operations and layers they wish to view and evaluate, all with only a few button clicks.

In the Field Analyzer, users can evaluate how decisions throughout the growing season have influenced yield. Users have the option of evaluating operational layers individually in overview mode or two at a time side-by-side in compare mode for insights from the information captured. To better understand areas of significant improvement or decline within a field from one year to the next, the difference map can be leveraged.

The difference map allows users to evaluate not only the performance within a single year, but compare that performance to how the field has performed over its documented history. The difference map allows users to see beyond the colors of a typical yield map and quantify the improvement or decline in performance, as well as highlighting specifically where in the field the improvement or decline took place. This allows users to more easily recognize best practices and develop plans based on learning for the coming crop season.

Ensuring data is quality and easy to understand is necessary to gain insights for making better agronomic decisions. The following functionality enables those insights:
  • Field Analyzer has editing tools that allow users to correct errors made in the cab
    • Product
    • Crop season
    • Crop type
    • Field detection (automatically correcting client/farm/field naming errors)
    • Manual client/farm/field renaming
    • Merge or unmerge client/farm/field
    • Machine and implement name
    • Machine and implement offsets
    • Harvest post calibration at the field or machine level
  • Identify the factors influencing yield
    • Review harvest, seeding, tillage, and application details to understand how a job was performed
      • Overview mode: view one layer at a time to review performance
      • Compare mode: view two map layers simultaneously to evaluate differences
      • Difference mode: leverage historical yield data to identify areas of significant change last year compared to average
      • Average map: also leveraged in difference mode, the average map automatically aggregates all yield layers for a common crop type, allowing users to easily see the historically best and worst performing parts of the field
    • Agronomic data details window provides users easy access to key information highlighting how the job was executed

  • Automatically and manually adjust documented data to eliminate errors made in the cab
    • Field detection automatically corrects client, farm, and field names based on boundaries stored in Operations Center when the operator improperly enters them in the cab
    • Harvest post calibration allows users to adjust the production totals by field based on total yield, wet weight, or moisture
    • Users will be able to edit crop type, crop season, and product if incorrectly entered in the cab
    • Operational layers can be deleted if they were mistakenly recorded or are no longer needed in the system
  • Summarize the details of an operation on a single report for further discussion
    • Reports include key details about the operation and provide a view of any map(s) open upon generation
    • Includes a map and totals for any operation viewable in Field Analyzer

  • Develop an understanding of the trends in performance to drive better insights
    • APEX™ software backup feature will seamlessly transfer all agronomic data from APEX to Operations Center to leverage going forward
    • The timeline located along the bottom of the Field Analyzer provides the user with a clear view of the documented operations for each growing season
    • The operation dropdown provides easy access to all historical information, providing users more ways to quickly access the right information
