Harvest Smart feedrate control is specifically designed to maximize the productivity level of the S-Series Combines and reduce operator stress.

The Harvest Smart feedrate control system is standard on S-Series Combine equipped with the ProDrive™ transmission system. 

The Harvest Smart system is an adaptive, on-the-go control system for S-Series Combines, designed to enable automatic ground speed control during harvest operation. Harvest Smart ensures the combine maintains a consistent crop load (feedrate) by automatically changing the combine ground speed to compensate for variations in crop that are not readily visible to the operator. 
HarvestSmart features
 
During normal operation of a combine, the operator manually has to change the ground speed of the combine by moving the hydrostatic control handle forward or rearward to try to maintain a consistent crop load (feedrate) in the combine.

With the Harvest Smart feedrate control system, the combine calculates the speed that is optimum for the given condition and adjusts the speed of the combine automatically, rather than requiring the operator to manually adjust the ground speed.

The Harvest Smart system can adjust to changing conditions faster than an average operator; therefore, it maintains a consistent crop load into the combine. Since the Harvest Smart control system automatically keeps the machine at maximum-capacity load as set by the operator, fatigue and stress are reduced and overall harvesting productivity is increased.

IMPORTANT: Harvest Smart will not provide productivity increases in harvesting operations that are consistently limited by header capability and is not recommended for use in very muddy conditions or where sidehill losses are the limit of combine capacity.

How does HarvestSmart feedrate work?
 
The Harvest Smart system uses three main inputs from the combine to automatically adjust the ground speed of the combine. The system uses information on:
  • Crop load in the separator (rotor)
  • Grain loss from the VisionTrak™ monitor
  • Engine load
 
As the combine is going through the field and conditions change (for example, the crop gets greener or dryer (density), the yield increases or decreases, the combine goes up or down a slope), the system monitors these three inputs and determines what ground speed is necessary, so as to always maintain these areas at its optimum setting.
  • The result is a more-even, consistent amount of crop material being processed by the combine over extended periods and for varying conditions.
  • When desired, the operator can override the Harvest Smart feedrate at any time by simply moving the hydrostatic control lever rearward to slow or stop the combine.

Component control system

The HarvestSmart feedrate control system includes the following components:
  • Smart controller — the main processing unit receives signals from the main inputs (ECU for engine loads, VisionTrak for loss levels, and rotor load sensor for rotor loads) and sends necessary output signals to regulate the system
  • Electro Hydraulic control valve — controls the hydro pump to change the ground speeds based on the signal from the PTP
  • Rotor load pressure sensor — senses the load on the rotor drive
  • VisionTrak loss monitor — monitors the set loss level for the system to maintain
  • CommandCenter™ — used to activate and set the system
  • Hydro control lever — sets the maximum ground speed for the system as determined by the operator
Harvest Smart for field installation
 
The Harvest Smart feedrate control is base equipment on S-Series Combines. It  also available as a field-installed option on 60 Series STS, 60 Series WTS, T670, and 70 Series STS Combines. Combines equipped with a ProDrive transmission receive the Harvest Smart feedrate control in base equipment.

NOTE: The combine must be equipped with the TouchSet™ combine adjustment. Harvest Smart is NOT recommended for use in harvesting operations consistently limited by header capability and is also NOT recommended for use in very muddy conditions or where sidehill losses are the limit of combine capacity.
