 | Pro-Shaft drive |
| | Pro-Shaft drive shown disengaged at the meter |
| For operators who value improved performance and a trouble-free way to power seed meters, Pro-Shaft cable drives are the solution. This drive system utilizes a right angle gear box at the drill shaft and at the meter housing, couple by a cable driveshaft. The Pro-Shaft drive provides many advantages over a conventional chain drive system. Just a few of the Pro-Shaft drive advantages are as follows:
-
Durability. The Pro-Shaft drive eliminates nuisance failures associated with chain drives in heavy residue conditions. In fact, residue shields used to protect the drive chains are no longer needed with Pro-Shaft drives.
-
Reduced maintenance cost and time savings. Pro-Shaft drive eliminates the need for daily chain oiling and yearly chain replacement--it's maintenance and mess free.
-
Quick and easy meter engagement or disengagement. A simple turn of a lever and movement of the shaft (in or out) engages or disengages the cable shaft.

The Pro-Shaft cable drive system replaces the conventional seed meter chain drive system on all Pro-Series™ row units. Pro-Series row units are used with the Central Commodity System and are base equipment on 1790, DB60 (47Row15), DB80 (48Row20), DB88, and DB90 Planters.
The Pro-Shaft drive is available as a factory installed option on all John Deere 1700 Series and DB Planters equipped with MaxEmerge XP™ row units and vacuum seed meters. Only the 1770NT Planters (12-, 16-, or 24-row models) with MaxEmerge XP row units can be factory equipped with the Pro-Shaft drive option for mechanical seed meters. The Pro-Shaft drive is not available from the factory for mechanical seed meters on any other planter models, but is available as a service kit through parts.
NOTE: The Pro-Shaft drive feature is not compatible with granular chemical application options (dry insecticide, herbicide, etc.).
