Right-hand console controls

John Deere has developed the most desired method of controlling tractor functions whether using the CommandARM controls or Right-Hand Console controls to operate the tractor. This intuitive control strategy has been essential for providing simple-to-use controls, regardless of operator skill level.

The CommandCenter houses the majority of the tractor function controls and is now available on the CommandARM or on the Right-Hand Console depending on the transmission option selected. Commonality of controls improves operator confidence when operating machinery.

The following functions can be adjusted using the CommandCenter controls and the CommandCenter display:
  • Hydraulic settings
  • Hitch settings
  • Transmission settings
  • FieldCruise
  • iTEC programming functions
  • Radio
  • Mechanical front-wheel-drive controls
  • Lights

The CommandCenter also incorporates the A through J soft keys, a thumbwheel, and other navigation keys.
Five transmission options are available; PowrQuad Plus, AutoQuad Plus, and CommandQuad are offered with a left hand reverser while the AutoPowr/IVT is offered with either a left hand or a right hand reverser.

Other CommandARM and right-hand console functions provide individual access to all primary-use controls:
  • Engine throttle
  • Hitch/SCV controls
  • Power take-off (PTO) controls
  • iTEC sequence switches
  • AutoTrac assisted steering system resume switch (if equipped)

The CommandARM can be repositioned to accommodate different operators.

Operator visibility

Forward visibility

Forward visibility

Cab engineering provides a strong structural wide open design that allows excellent visibility to the front, rear, and sides of the tractor.

In addition, the engine exhaust is routed up and away from the right front cab post, and the engine fresh-air intake is aligned with the left front cab post maintaining excellent forward visibility.

Visibility to the front wheel for row-crop operations is excellent, even when fully equipped with front tire fenders and a GreenStar 3 display.

High visibility is accomplished by:
  • Front window glass that is as wide at the bottom as it is at the top.
  • Front sunshade that is integrated into the headliner and recessed.
  • No view-obstructing components being attached to the chassis.
Rear visibility

Wide-opening rear window

Wide-opening rear window

The large rear window provides excellent visibility to the drawbar, 3-point hitch area, and rear-mounted implements.

The cab supporting structure provides wide openings for rear window glass, creating excellent visibility paths from the seat. Selective control valves (SCVs) with hose couplers are unitized for compact size and stacked horizontally. This provides a clear visibility path to the drawbar.
Cab entry/exit

CommandView™ II cab entry

CommandView™ II cab entry

A large side door and wide threshold make entry/exit into the CommandView II cab simple and comfortable.

Steps are adjustable from 33 degrees to 40 degrees from the tractor centerline to allow working in various row spacing.

Deep-tooth steel-stamped steps provide secure footing during entry and exit. Step width varies with the size of the rear tires.

Step width:
  • Group 47 and 48 rear tires: 14.3 in (364 mm)
  • Group 49 rear tires: 12.2 in (310 mm)

Large, contoured handrails provide a positive handgrip when climbing or descending steps.

Storage

Left-hand storage

Left-hand storage

The interior right-hand storage area provides a handy location to store mobile phones or other small items. Included near this storage area are one 12-V convenience outlet (cigarette lighter style), one 12-V 3-pin outlet with adapter, and one International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9-pin connector. Additionally, a radio auxiliary input jack is included with the premium radio package. In front of this storage location are two cup holders.

For tractors with right-hand console controls, the convenience outlet, 3-pin outlet, ISO connector, auxiliary input jack, and one cup holder are all located to the rear of the right-hand console.

The left-hand storage compartment is included with the CommandView II cab. This provides additional storage for binders, documents, and other items. A 12-V convenience outlet and 12-V 3-pin outlet are located within the left-hand compartment.

Storage behind the seat allows the operator to carry additional items in the cab in an organized fashion. Space has been allotted for various items: two cup/bottle holders, a computer bag, and thermos among other items. The operator's manual holder is located underneath the window and is larger for carrying additional manuals. Access to the tractor's fuse panel is behind the operator's manual holder.
Cab sound quality

Sound attenuators

Sound attenuators

The 7R Series Tractors utilize integrated passive sound attenuation (reduction) chambers in the cab roof to help reduce overall cab noise. These chambers are embedded in the inner roof. While the visible openings appear to have little function (no air or sound come from them), they are damping a specific frequency range an operator would find objectionable over a long day. These chambers work to lessen noise by 3 dBA at a low, 100-Hz frequency.

Other important items that contribute to sound control and quality:
  • Double-lip seal is used around the door to close any gaps to the outside. Front and left-hand side windows are glued into place at the factory using automotive-style technology.
  • Double-walled and insulated exhaust system is tuned to minimize sound.
  • Large, 203-mm (8-in.) diameter, full-length muffler contributes to sound control. The exhaust system piping is not attached to the cab structure to eliminate possible noise and vibration.
  • Electrohydraulic SCV valves eliminate the need for mechanical linkage and the associated vibration and sealing problems typical with linkages.
  • Generous acoustical barrier in several locations helps absorb sound.
  • Use of internal chassis housing oil-passage lines minimizes hydraulic noise. External oil lines are isolated from direct chassis contact.
  • Steering and brake valves are isolated and located outside the cab.
  • Overall cab vibration is minimized and isolated through rubber cab mounts. The isolator on the rear of hood closes off the area between the cab glass and the engine compartment.
  • Use of body panels, which are adhesively bonded, help eliminate leak paths and dampen sound.

HVAC recirculation filter cover

HVAC recirculation filter cover

Advanced design techniques and testing procedures were used in the development of the 7R Series Tractor's heating ventilation air-conditioning (HVAC) system. This design provides maximum operator comfort with efficient and uniform distribution of airflow. Cab airflow has been increased by as much as 30 percent over the previous design.

Included with the HVAC system are six adjustable headliner louvres, two adjustable front A-post louvres, and integrated non-adjustable defrosting louvres along the front window.

On the CommandView II cab, the controls for temperature, fan speed, and direction of airflow are in the cab roof (on deluxe and premium cabs with the AutoPowr/IVT or CommandQuad transmissions, the controls are located on the CommandARM™).

The controls direct airflow to the floor, defrost locations, and vents facing the operator or a combination of directions. These vents can all be positioned as needed to assure operator comfort.

Ninety percent of the total air volume is recirculated for greater operator comfort and cooling performance. The recirculation filter is located in the headliner. This location greatly increases the filter life and minimizes servicing needs due to dust contamination. Airflow recirculation volume minimizes "dead-air" spots and improves the overall cooling and heating of the cab and defrosting capabilities. The snap-off and -on cover provides easy access to the filter should cleaning be necessary.

The cab air recirculation filter is easy to clean or replace by pulling down the cover and using the thumbscrews to remove the filter retainer pan.

The cab's fresh-air filter can be serviced easily by standing on the left-hand steps. A simple 180-degree turn of the knob (without tools) lowers the filter housing and exposes the filter element for cleaning or service. For complete cleaning, the housing can also be removed from the roof.

The instructional seat provides a comfortable and convenient location to sit while instructing new or inexperienced operators. The instructional seat includes a seat belt.

The seat cushion may be folded up to increase entry/exit space, or the backrest of the instructional seat may be folded down to be utilized as a desktop area. The instructional seat sits ahead of the left-hand storage.
