Frame-mounted, single-disk openers
 
Liquid fertilizer openers are a vital component to ensuring proper placement and delivery of expensive fertilizer inputs. The application of fertilizer at planting, although not a new practice, helps limit additional passes through the field – saving time and money.
 
Frame-mounted, single-disk fertilizer openers are available for 1775NT and 1795 Planters and are the openers of choice across varying conditions. Depending on the 1795 Planter model configuration, there are two different styles of openers available (see reference information below). Each opener style is designed to perform in conventional, reduced, no-till, and double crop conditions.

NOTE: The frame-mounted, 17.8-cm (7-in.) x 17.8-cm (7-in.) fertilizer opener (as referenced in the image above) is used on the 1775NT and 1795 Split-Row Planters (this does not include the 1795 24Row20 model).
 
The fertilizer opener uses a 33-cm (13-in.) rubber wheel gauges depth and minimizes soil disruption. The gauge wheel can be positioned for two different application depths; regular and shallow. Depending upon soil conditions, the shallow setting will apply fertilizer up to 7.6-cm (3-in.) deep and the regular setting will apply fertilizer approximately 10.2-cm (4-in.) deep.  
 
The frame-mounted, single-disk fertilizer opener will allow fertilizer to be placed a greater distance from the seed furrow, which is ideal for producers who want to apply high rates of liquid nitrogen. These openers are used in combination with the liquid fertilizer piston pump and manifold system.

NOTE: A different frame-mounted fertilizer opener is used on the 1795 24Row20 Planter configuration than what is used on other 1795 Split-Row Planter configurations.
 
The 1795 24Row20 Planter utilizes a different fertilizer opener style than what is present on the other 1795 Split-Row Planter configurations. Within this specific planter model, the fertilizer openers are configured as follows:
  • 8 – fertilizer opener assemblies with 7.6-cm (3-in.) x 7.6-cm (3-in.) mounting brackets for the eight center-mainframe row-units.
  • 16 – fertilizer opener assemblies with 12.7-cm (5-in.) x 17.8-cm (7-in.) mounting brackets for the 16 wing-frame row-units.
The gauge wheel can be positioned for two different application depths: regular and shallow. Seedbed conditions will dictate the optimum setting for maintaining the most consistent fertilizer placement. The regular setting should be used for most conditions except when inadequate opener penetration and rocks are an issue. In no-till and tough field conditions, desired depths might not be achieved.
 
The shallow setting applies fertilizer up to approximately 4.45-cm (1.75-in.) deep. The mid-range setting applies fertilizer up to approximately 5.7 cm (2.25-in.) deep. The regular setting applies fertilizer up to approximately 7-cm (2.75-in.) deep.
 
In applications where the fertilizer openers will not be used, they can be locked up in the raised position.

Unit-mounted, single-disk opener

The unit-mounted, single-disk injection opener is also available for 1775NT and 1795 Planters. It can be ordered through attachments by ordering bundle number BA29503.
 
The unit-mounted, single-disk injection opener is designed to be utilized with a piston pump and high-pressure manifold. The single, 50-wave coulter penetrates tough seedbeds. A sturdy bracket and mounting arm position the blade a maximum of 5.1 cm (2 in.) to the side of the row. The liquid fertilizer is injected into the soil directly behind the coulter. The correct nozzle tip should be selected to adjust fertilizer system pressure according to fertilizer rate and travel speed.

Unit-mounted, double-disk fertilizer openers are also available for 1775NT and 1795 Planters through attachments by ordering attachment number BA28680 double-disk liquid fertilizer opener for mounting on row-unit (one row).
 
A 6-degree blade angle opens the soil for fertilizer placement even with a seed depth of 2.5 cm (1 in.) below. The opener can be positioned 4.45 cm (1.75 in.), 5.1 cm (2 in.), or 5.7 cm (2.25 in.) off of the row. This opener is suggested for conventional and reduced-till fields and some light no-till conditions.
 
Unit-mounted, double-disk openers are not compatible with frame- or unit-mounted coulters or any tillage tool mounted on the tillage tool hanger. Scrapers may need to be removed in very loose, dry soil conditions to keep the blades turning.
 
NOTE: With ExactEmerge™ row-units, fertilizer openers are only capable of reaching speeds up to 12.1 km/h (7.5 mph).
